So I got all confident after my video debut and took it up a notch when I got the opportunity to interview author Jeff Goins. I am the biggest Luddite ever you know, so it took me for.ever to figure out how to do a remote video interview. Jeff’s all young and hip so this stuff comes naturally to him, whereas I was like, “What? We’re not going to do this via telegram?”
First I got my mom to practice Skype with me, but then when the quality was only so-so, I decided to try Google+Hangout. I had to watch a YouTube video to figure out Google Hangout, and then I got Deidra to practice with me (thank you, Deidra!), and I finally – almost – mastered it (I apologize that the video starts about 8 seconds into the interview, but I didn’t want to say to Jeff, “Wait! I messed up! Can we do a do-over?!” So I just pretended like everything was totally smooth and perfect.) This is what navigating technology in your 40s looks like, people!
Anyway, I am super pumped to welcome author Jeff Goins to the blog today. I am a loyal reader of Jeff”s blog and a subscriber to his newsletter, and I’ve read both Wrecked and now his newest book, The In-Between, a memoir. I’ll let the interview speak for itself, because Jeff offers some great insights on both writing and the process of living in the waiting periods. But let me just say before we get started that you should buy and read both Wrecked and The In-Between. Jeff Goins may look young, but he is an old soul and has a ton of wisdom about life, art and faith.
